Welcome to the Tauranga Shakespeare Festival: Shakespeare in the Village

Presented by the Craft Management Charitable Trust, "Shakespeare in the Village" is a one-day celebration set against the picturesque backdrop of the Historic Village in Tauranga. This unique festival breathes life into the enduring works of William Shakespeare, offering a blend of performances, workshops, art, and interactive experiences designed to entertain and inspire attendees of all ages.

Date: Sunday, April 21st Venue: Historic Village, Tauranga

A Day of Shakespearean Delights

From the opening ceremony to the closing moments, the festival is packed with activities that pay homage to the Bard of Avon. Immerse yourself in the Elizabethan era with:

  • Shakespeare Unplugged: An all-day art gallery event showcasing Shakespeare-themed artwork from local and national artists, transforming the village into a visual narrative of Shakespeare's influence across time.
  • Medieval Stalls and Artisan Market: Wander through the village and explore medieval stalls offering a variety of Shakespeare-inspired goods, crafts, and local produce. The artisan market promises a treasure trove of unique finds and Elizabethan-themed treats.
  • Interactive Workshops and Screenings: Participate in poetry workshops focused on Shakespearean and modern love sonnets, and relax at a special screening of "Shakespeare in Love" in the Village Cinema.
  • Live Performances and Music: Enjoy spontaneous Shakespearean performances throughout the day and musical showcases that bring the era to life.
  • NZ Screen and Stage Combat School Activities: Managed by Alex Holloway, experience the thrill of axe throwing, archery, and witness expertly choreographed duelling and combat demonstrations.
  • Monologue Competition and Showcases: Be moved by powerful monologues, sonnets, and soliloquies during our showcase and competition, with prize money for standout performances.
  • Children's Activities: A dedicated area for kids to engage with Shakespeare through costume play, ensuring a fun-filled experience for our youngest festival-goers.
